Cognitive Behavioural Therapy or CBT is a family of talking therapies, all based on the idea that thoughts, feelings, what we do, and how our bodies feel, are all connected. If we change one of these, we can alter all the others.
When we are low or upset, we often fall into patterns of thinking and responding which can worsen how we feel.

When we are low or upset, we often fall into patterns of thinking and responding which can worsen how we feel. CBT works to help us notice and change problematic thinking styles or behaviour patterns so we can feel better.
CBT is a collaborative therapy - it’s not something that is done to someone, it’s a way of working together with a CBT therapist on mutually agreed goals.
CBT works for lots of different people and problems and is widely recommended by national treatment guidelines across the UK
Goals for therapy will be set together with after talking things through to properly understand the problem and will be worked on both in-between and during sessions. Once the therapy comes to an end, we will think together about continuing to use CBT techniques in daily life after treatment.

When a person experiences psychological trauma or highly stressful events, they are not always able to process the relevant information (i.e. thoughts, emotions, bodily sensations). When a person experiences psychological trauma or highly stressful events, they are not always able to process the relevant information (i.e. thoughts, emotions, bodily sensations). As a result, they can end up getting “stuck” inside of them and can resurface later on, as if the person was still reliving the traumatic or stressful event.
EMDR (Eye Movement Desensitisation and Reprocessing) is a therapeutic technique that helps individuals process traumatic memories and reduce the negative effects of past experiences on their current lives.
EMDR can subsequently improve emotional well-being and help to significantly reduce, but more often eliminate distressing symptoms and bodily sensations associated with the trauma.
During an EMDR session, the therapist guides the patient through a series of eye movements, taps, or sounds while recalling the distressing memory. This process helps to reprocess the memory in a way that reduces its emotional intensity and allows the individual to better cope with the associated feelings and beliefs.
EMDR is often used as a treatment for PTSD and other trauma-linked problems.
In 2013, the World Health Organisation (WHO) also acknowledged EMDR as being an effective treatment approach to psychological trauma and trauma-related disorders.
